Challenge
Public-sector data that may not leave the EEA, at a scale few local providers offer.
Solution
4,096 H200s on N-01 with customer-held keys and audited physical access.
Result
A Norwegian, Swedish and Danish model trained entirely inside Norway.
Sovereignty is a requirement, not a preference
Kernel builds language models for municipalities, hospitals and public agencies across the Nordics. Their training data includes decades of public documents, and their contracts are clear: the data stays in the EEA, and the public sector holds the keys.
Very few providers in the region could offer thousands of GPUs on one fabric under those terms.
“Our auditors want to see the building, not a compliance PDF.”
The largest pod in Hall A
Kernel runs 4,096 H200s on N-01, the largest single pod in the hall. Storage is encrypted with keys held in Kernel's own hardware security modules, and Nordlys staff cannot read the data at rest.
Controls in place
Customer-held encryption keys for every volume and backup.
A caged section of Hall A with named-person access and full logging.
Quarterly on-site audits, with Kernel's auditors walking the aisle.
The first model
Kernel's first model covers Norwegian, Swedish and Danish and was trained entirely inside Norway. It is now in pilot with three municipalities, answering questions about local services in the language residents actually write in.
